Bits and bobs

What can I tell you:

Three boys went back to school on Monday.

The oldest followed on Tuesday.

I remembered quickly how much I hate packing lunches.

If I make mini pizzas for the boys to take to school do you make them up, cook them and then freeze them? Or make them up, freeze them then cook them the night before/morning of?

I have two children who don’t like eating sandwiches. WTF?

I’ve exercised every day this week.

I have a goal to be fit and fabulous for my 40th.

I’m still dreaming & scheming to get to NYC to celebrate turning 40.

I’m focusing on that as I see other friends announcing their plans & sponsorships to go to BlogHer in NYC in August.

I’ve been really taken aback by my excitement and exhilaration at Felix starting high school.

To the point I’m now starting to annoy myself. Calm the fuck down already.

Something’s happened to my libido. I’m not sure if it’s the standard ovulation-induced dramatic rise in desire or something longer lasting. Let’s not dwell on it for fear we jinx it for Chef.

I am thinking that the alarming level with which I ogle stare gawk look at the boys next door with their abs and trails down into their board shorts and general YOUTH may be playing a part.

Just a maybe mind you.

It occurred to me that while I am *only* 15 years older than them they put me into a category with their parents.

This is spectacularly depressing.

Our boys now basically reside next door. I’m resolving feeling bad about this by baking stuff for the menboys. Or making extra spaghetti bolognese to take in to them. It’s an illness.

It’s raining. Again.

Have I mentioned how much I adore the rain?

There was a chance Chef was going to Bali for a work project. It didn’t eventuate but it was fun getting all ‘oh em gee you’ll need a passport! How exciting!’.

Jasper finds out his classroom teacher today. I’m suspecting it’ll be the one I defined as ‘creepy’ last year. Because clearly, that’s how things roll around here.

Onward!

I’m sure the Big Boys like having your boys around… and if they don’t they would just say so. Although spag bol is an excellent bribing weapon…

  • It mystifies me, Kim, as to why you’re not going to BlogHer etc. Truly, it does…

    • Here’s the thing.

BlogHer is in NYC in August this year. I would LOVE to go. L.O.V.E.

But then I am awash with guilt at the thought of doing something so selfish for a number of reasons:
      – the 400 children I have and the favours I’d have to pull to get them looked after
      – the fact we don’t have enough money to even pay Oscar’s school fees (and the rest) but I could still jet off OS
      – that Chef has never even left the country.

So, I’m 40 in December. There’s a range of things on my bucket list but really, if I had to strip it back to one it’d be going to NYC. So… I’m actively writing and pitching stories and hoping to secure something regular so that once the credit card/school fees/school camps/uniforms/food bills etc are under control I can squirrel some away to get me and Chef there probably just after Xmas over the new year. We have dear friends who live there and we’d just camp on their floor w/ maybe one night in some swish hotel. And then it’d just be me actually achieving one of my dreams with my man right there beside me.

I could – of course – look for a company to sponsor me to BlogHer but
      a) I have no idea how to go about doing that
      b) I feel really uncomfortable and audacious doing that – I mean, what do they get!? From me!? While I get from them a trip to BlogHer (ZOMG) and NYC (ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG).

      That’s it really.

Hi love, little bits of money can add up to a pretty decent amount and with some good deals on flits you just may be able to do it! It would be fab! I hope things move in the right direction and you can make it happen! Xxx

    I mean flights of course!

  • Make the mini pizzas, freeze, then cook the night before. They’re “fresher” that way. I do this for my own lunches.
For the ones who don’t like sandwiches, put the fillings in little tubs and add a plastic spoon or fork if it’s salady type stuff, or add breadsticks for dipping if it’s something like peanut butter or cream cheese.

Kim, do what you have to. Pitch, write, sing, dance, juggle. You MUST go to NY for your 40th, I mean … it’s a milestone and you deserve it! I understand how harder it is for you, a mum of 4 but I also understand how you really WANT this and let’s face it: what luxuries do you allow yourselves normally? And you also have friends who can welcome you. Come on! Doitdoitdoit. I’m tempted to say I’ll meet you there!!! Because clearly, that would be the only way for us to meet. EVER.
