One week

Well, where did that week go? Sorry about that. I did try. I’d sit with the posting box just staring back at me. Nothing to say, nothing to see, move along.
So what’s been happening you say?
Well

Felix (as part of the school’s training band) was involved in the NSW Festival of Bands – truly not as scintillating as that title would imply. There seemed to be a lot of middle-aged gay men organisers. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. With neatly trimed beards. The school got a gold award. Which the band members translated to them being the best in Australia.

Oscar (as part of the school’s troupe) was involved in the Junior Rock Eisteddfod – JRock. There have been multiple weekly practices for months. The performance was preceded with an entire day (starting at being at school by 7.15) at the venue. I was rather anxious that Oscar would not cope with any of it and come performance time see the scale of it all and the massive audience and just stand there staring at everyone. In reality he was an absolute champ, doing all the actions (except for one small section) and even getting down on the floor for that part. They had even got the eye makeup on him – it apparently took 20 minutes and he wiped it off straight away and refused to let them put it back on, but for a kid who won’t even let me get the sleep out of the corner of his eyes I think this is rather momentous.

Chef had his appointment with the vascular surgeon who has recommended surgery within the next 12-18 months.
I’m trying not the dwell on this as it will involve more medical bills (we’ll have to increase our health insurance to pay for it if it is going to happen within that time frame – waiting lists for vascular surgery in NSW public hospitals is a minimum of three years) and more unpaid time off work. Next!

I saw my shrink yesterday and could honestly reply to his question of how I was with “really really happy”. Then he told me he’s retiring. G’AH. Janet I may need some guidance on how to navigate this…

Amelia (from Duyvken) and I got together today for morning tea. The woman is thinner than I’ve ever been in my life and only four months after having her fourth child. I totally forgive her this cold hard fact due to the presence of pastries (which she didn’t touch, which Jasper scoffed and which I finished off once they had gone… which you know, explains a lot about the weight differential) she had bought at a wonderful bakery and the presence of two gorgeous little girls – C and JW. I got to sniff a baby’s head nahnah neh nahnah.
It was just lovely and had that surreal element of this was technically the first time we met but it felt like something we do every other week. Which we should!

I’ve been going to the gym. Infrequently. Snore.

It has only been in the last week that I’ve been able to deal with contemplating getting the house in order. So far I’ve managed to stay on top of the washing, clean the bathrooms completely, clean our bedroom (first time in months) and am half way through the big boys room and am going to tackle the little fellas’ room next. It feels good.
