Where have the Glamorouse Women gone?

In case you’re wondering, Kim is playing over here at All Consuming and Bec is reclining in The Ladies Lounge.

And yes, your Glamour Mums still love each other very much, but it’s hard work being non-stop sex goddesses, celebrity chefs, five-star generals and international maternity idols so sometimes we just need a little time to think our own thoughts.

So come visit, and feel free to update your blogroll, too!

Bread and Butter Pudding

Well this week has been a ride.

I went for the job I’ve been acting in for the last 7 weeks.

I got down to the final three. I had a second interview. It was between me and someone else.

I didn’t get it.

I could go in to quite a wallow here. You’d all write lovely things and eventually I will get over feeling like a complete and utter loser. Instead, I have decided to share one of my favourites, because happiness is baking.

Bread and butter pudding

  • 10 slices of bread, buttered and cut into triangles – it is divine with left-over/stale croissant (just cut them in half across ways)
  • handful of sultanas – optional (rather lovely if you’ve soaked them in some grand marnier or liqueur before hand)
  • 500ml milk (or cream, it is rather lovely made with cream)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 60g caster sugar
  • brown sugar
  1. Preheat the oven to 180C and butter a baking dish
  2. Layer the bread in a dish and scatter over the sultanas
  3. Mix the milk, eggs, vanilla and caster sugar together thenĀ pour over the bread
  4. Let sit for 10 minutes thenĀ scatter over some brown sugar, pop in the oven and back for 45 minutes.

Serve with cream, custard, ice cream or all three.

Jasper was 10 months old yesterday. To celebrate, my period came back.

I spent about f.i.v.e. hours at soccer this weekend. To discover that no, it isn’t over, we are playing next weekend to make up for one of the rained out weeks. The equivalent to water torture for us idiot breeders who attempt to engage our children in physical activity and team sports…

I made the most yummy dinner this weekend. And it kind of took me by surprise:

Chop Casserole
6-8 lamb chops
flour
salt and pepper
olive oil
red wine
2 onions, sliced
1-2 carrots, sliced thickly
1/2-1 cup pearl barley
stock

– preheat the oven to 180C
– coat the chops in the seasoned flour
– heat the oil in a frypan, brown the chops in batches
– remove chops to a casserole dish or enamel pan
– deglaze the frypan with the red wine
– add the onions and carrots and saute until browned
– add to the chops
– scatter over the pearl barley (the above measure is a pure guess – I just poured some over)
– add some of the flour from dusting the chops to the pan and cook-off
– add the stock gradually, stirring to remove/avoid lumps
– cook until slightly thickened
– pour over the chops and veggies
– I added some basil leaves at this stage
– cover with a lid or double layer of foil
– Cook for 1.5-2 hours.

I served it with some green peas. It was magnificent.

The only thing worse than getting your period after 19 months of not having it – is it arriving late on a Sunday night and having only one tampon of questionable age and panty liners. The morning is going to require me to be the McGyver of sanitary products.
